For several decades, the primary focus of the institute has been enhancing water efficiency in food production. In light of global warming and the urgent need to capture and store excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, the institute expanded its mission nearly a decade ago to include improving water efficiency in photosynthesis. Unlike common approaches in academic research, all activities are carried out under real-world production conditions. As a result, key operations in areas such as soil fertility, plant nutrition, pest and disease control, and mechanization are essential—since without them, improving water efficiency, whether through optimized irrigation techniques or appropriate technologies, would not be feasible
